PPS.tv (PPStream) is a Chinese peer-to-peer streaming video network software. Since the target users are on the Chinese mainland, there is no official English version, and the vast majority of channels are from East Asia, mostly Mainland China, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. Programmes vary from Chinese movies to Japanese anime, sports channels, as well as popular American TV and films.[1]
It had a 8.9% market share in China in Q3 2010, placing it third - behind Youku and Tudou.[2]

[edit] Applications
It can broadcast TV programs stably and smoothly to broadband users. Compared to traditional streaming media, PPS adopts P2P-streaming technology and supports high-volume traffic; several hundred thousand users can watch a live stream at 300-500 Kbps using only one server with a 5-10 Mbps connection.[3]
However, there is a downside. The whole principle of peer to peer serving (P2P) is that each "client" on the system is also a server. P2P is a form of distributed processing. If anyone on a given internet switch, not just you, but also your neighbors, is using a P2P service, such as PSStream, if that switch is heavily loaded, or of limited capacity, the band-width usage by the P2P service may slow any other internet work through that switch to a snail's pace. That usage will not just be for the person who wants to watch something, but also for the third parties who are being given their content from the computer of the P2P participant.
