The 'Palm Beach Mariners' are an adult amateur American style football team that competes at the minor league level in West Palm Beach, Florida. The team was aptly named due to the history of maritime activity and industry in the area. The coast of Palm Beach County is the site of over fifty documented ocean shipwrecks and intracoastal vessel sinkings since January of 1660. The team is affectionately referred to as, "The M's", on occasion by fans.
The Mariners began their inaugural season on February 13, 2010 as a member of the Southeast Football League (SEFL), with a victory over the South Broward Jaguars, 18-16. Their 2010 home games were played at Old Al Sutton Stadium (2,000 seating capacity) on the former campus of Suncoast Community High School in the City of Riviera Beach.
On February 12, 2011, the Mariners opened their home game schedule inside the recently constructed Suncoast Stadium (capacity 3,889), on the campus of the new Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach, Florida.
The team finished the 2011 regular season at 7-3, and for the 2nd consecutive season, qualified for a Playoff berth. They were defeated by the Osceola Rattlers, 28-6, at Lee Leonard Stadium in Orlando, Florida on May 7, 2011.
The team received the SEFL's "2011 Organization Of The Year" Award as voted upon by the league owners. It marked the second consecutive year in which the team had received recognition for its outstanding administrative and business operations performance having been awarded the SEFL's "New Organization Of The Year" in 2010.
The Mariners will begin play as a member of the Southern Amateur Football Association (SAFA) in February 2012. The Mariners plan to introduce "Salty The Seagull" as the their game day mascot by the start of the 2012 football season.
