The paper moon is a spherical globe that serves as a lantern, constructed from bamboo and draped with paper. Other translucent material, such as silk, may be used instead of paper. Paper lanterns date back to 2nd-century China, and can be seen during the Chinese lantern festival. This festival is celebrated during the 15th day of the 1st month in the lunar calendar.
