Parkwood is a suburb on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, about 3 km west of Southport. At the 2006 Census, Parkwood had a population of 8,470. The major industry being retail trade, and a majority of workers being technicians & trades workers 2006 Census.
Parkwood is in close proximity to Arundel State School, a number of high schools, private schools, Griffith University, and Gold's new University Hospital (due for completion in 2012). There are several shopping centres within 3-5km, and numerous retail and small industrial areas in Molendinar, Labrador, and Southport. Parkwood is 3-5km from Southport public pool and the Broadwater which feeds into the ocean 2012 UBD and Google Maps. Beaches are located within 3-8km and include Mainbeach and Surfers Paradise beach.
Parkwood is in close proximity to a number of golf courses all within 0.5- 10km 2012 UBD and Google Maps. Traveling north Parkwood is approximately 6km from Helensvale Railway Station and approximately 1 hour drive to Brisbane CBD (1hr by train)Qld Translink and Surfside bustime tables. The local bus runs through many parts of Parkwood and all have interconnection with other bus routes and modes of transport Qld Translink and Surfside bus time tables.
Parkwood is characterized by leafy green streets and well kept gardens and detached homes, the majority of which are owner occupied or rented. The suburb as a whole was developed in the last 20 years and falls under the Gold Coast City Council Division 6 Gold Coast Council Web site
