Paul Lorenzo Hines is a football coach and was the inspiration for Denzel Washington's character in the Disney film Remember the Titans.

He was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Isaiah and Lottie Hines. He attended Richard Allen Tucker Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, where he was inspired to become a teacher and coach.
He attended Norfolk State University, Virginia State College, and Virginia State University before finally graduating with a degree in physical education.
He took several coaching and teaching positions before he transferred to the Alexandria, Virginia school system where he taught for 29 years before retiring in 1999.
