Pear Media was established by two brothers, Ed Pereira and Fed Pereira in 2003. When both brothers were at University they founded RU Sorted magazine, a clubbing and entertainments magazine for South Wales. In 2000, the brothers won the Welsh Media & Communications Company of the Year and it was awarded the Shell Livewire Significant Progress Award in 2001.

Ru Sorted however was not generating the income that the brothers desired so Fed Pereira went to work as a Sales Executive at Western Mail & Echo and Ed Pereira started freelancing. In 2003 Fed Pereira left the Western Mail & Echo and joined his brother in publishing Enterprise magazine, a national business magazine for Wales. From that one publication Pear Media grew and now has published 11 titles.

Pear had instant success and their titles became increasingly popular and visible. Pear developed a ground breaking distribution procedure and in 2004 Pear was contacted by the Welsh Development Agency to distribute some of their titles. This led to the creation of Pear Distribution which is now Wales & the West largest and leading distributor of printed matter including magazines, brochures, leaflets and posters.

Fed took control of the Pear Distribution, whilst Ed maintained the Publishing and Marketing side of the business. As the distribution arm grew it developed specialist services for the publishing, tourism, theatre and events industry.

Pear Distribution's clientele now includes Wales Millennium Centre, WRU, Theatre Royal, Livenation, Visit Wales, Cadw, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiff Festival, Big Chill and many more.

The company's head office is in Llandow, Wales and its main 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m2) warehouse is also located here.

In 2011 Pear Media began re-branding as Pear Communications to give the company a more rounded image encompassing all its services and products.
