[edit] History

Initial examination for constructing an airport in Penticton began in 1937. Part of the area that was selected was owned by an Indian band, and was thus expropriated in 1939. Construction on the airport began in 1940, and was completed in 1941. Trans-Canada Airlines and Canadian Pacific Airlines served the airport after the Second World War. In 1969 Pacific Western Airlines flew jet aircraft, in the form of the Boeing 737, into the airport, however, this was ended in 1988 by Canadian Airlines, which had taken over Pacific Western Airlines. The airport continued to see service from Air BC using turboprop aircraft, and today Air Canada Express flies three daily flights to Penticton from Vancouver.[4]
