PESIT Main Block

PESIT is located in Bengaluru. The campus is located 10 km from the City Railway Station and an auto stand is right outside the front gate for the convenience of the students and faculty who don't own cycles, scooters, bikes, cars, lorries, or even autos of their own, on the 100 feet Ring Road, Banashankari 3rd Stage and can be approached via Mysore Road. The college consists of five major blocks :

  • The D - Block: This block is dedicated to the Electronics, Electrical and Telecommunication Subjects. The block also features Sensors Networks Research Lab, started as a joint venture between PESIT and Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA.
  • The E - Block: The E Block or the TechPark is the most advanced and technologically advanced building at the PESIT campus as of now. It houses the offices of the Dean of Academics and Evaluation and has many other UG and PG departments like Biotech Engineering, Bachelor of Hotel Management etc
  • The F - Block: The F Block, Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) is newly completed. It has the Department of Information Science and Engineering, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, The Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering, and the Department of Telecommunications Engineering along with some research setups like FreeScale Semiconductor VLSI Lab.

The College has a well designed auditorium in the A Block with 1800+ seating capacity equipped with modern displays and high-tech speakers. The college has indoor facilities for basketball, badminton, table tennis and many other games. A cricket ground is situated right next to the Tech Park . Other facilities include a volleyball court, football ground and a basket ball court. The college is also equipped with a gym with modern equipment and facilities which offers its services to the students of PES institutions at concessional rates.

[edit] Faculty And Research

PESIT currently has over 35 doctorates on-campus,[citation needed] in varied fields of specialization in the engineering departments. Various Research Fields include Image Processing, Fuzzy Logic, Unstructured Data Management and Sensor Networks.

A joint research venture in the field of GSM localization and sensor networks is being carried out between the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at PESIT and Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. Dr. A.Srinivas, Dean of Research at PESIT heads this research activity. The research activities in sensor networks and GSM Localization started in Feb 2007 and is currently in its 3rd year. Three students viz. Hersh Sridhar Iyer, Kalpesh Padia and Sushma Jayashankara completed a 6 week internship at ODU during Jul-Aug 2008. Currently, the team has produced two publications on GSM Localization and has done significant work on sensor networks.

[edit] Cultural Activities

  • Freshers' day: The seniors give the freshers a warm welcome.
  • Celesta: The college cultural day.
  • Aatmatrisha: Annual techno-cultural fest of the college which attracts participants all over the country. Usually people tend to forget the spelling of this word but its alright, that is how we rock. Also, the meaning and origin of this word is yet unknown. [1]

Aatmatrisha 09 was one of the best fests in the history of PESIT. It was a three day fest with events spanning various categories like Techincal, Literary, Fine Arts, Gaming, Quizzing, Cultural etc. There was a performance by folk artists. There were also live rock show performances. On the second day of the fest there was a performance by an Indian Rock Band "Junk Yard Groove" and on the last day of the fest , there was a performance by "Euphoria" which was a huge hit .

  • Vistas: The national-level management fest.
  • Éclat: The annual college magazine, of the students, for the students and by the students. http://www.pes.edu/eclat/

PESIT is well known for nurturing cultural groups that continued to thrive beyond their college days, such as Phenom, a rock band known both for their original music as well as for being the first Indian group to release their material under a Creative Commons license.

[edit] Disciplinary Measures in PESIT: Infraction Slips

PESIT is the first among engineering colleges to enforce a disciplinary measure that issues infraction slips to students. Depending on the magnitude of the offense, the slips can be 'minor, 'major', or 'severe'. The slips will be in triplicate. One copy will be handed over to the student, the second to the parents and the third will be kept in the relevant college department with details entered against the student’s name in the code of conduct register. The rules and regulations are available for reference in the library, departments and website of the college. Once a student is suspended, a disciplinary committee will review his/her behaviour. The student will have the right of appeal against his suspension. In extreme cases, the committee can withhold the marks card and certificates of the student.
