[edit] Character's background
Perdita Hyde-Sinclair seemed to have it all. Brains, beauty and a happy marriage to Grayson - what more could a woman ask for? In reality, the gorgeous brunette nursed a secret. Her marriage to Grayson might seem a perfect match but his wandering eye caused her much pain.
Soon after arriving, Perdy flirted with vet Hari Prasad – wanting to make Grayson jealous. However, at the last minute, Perdy couldn't be unfaithful despite Grayson's constant cheating. She and Hari remained friends and Perdy needed all the friends she could get – as she has an enemy in Grayson's mother, Rosemary. All Rosemary wanted from Perdy was grandchildren and made that very clear. Having suffered repeated miscarriages, Perdy came clean to Grayson and was touched when he promised to provide for her anyway. Grayson was shocked as he'd assumed that Perdy had never conceived until she told him about her miscarriages.
While Gray loved her, he and Perdy agreed he could cheat but not with women. Viewers were shocked to discover that he slept with men.
[edit] Married life with Grayson
When Perdy suspected Grayson was cheating again, she got revenge by sleeping with Matthew King. He was eager to take their relationship further but Perdy wasn't interested. Matthew settled for being friends instead. She suspected briefly that she was pregnant and confessed to Grayson but the pregnancy was a false alarm.
Attempting to make amends to Perdy, Grayson bought Mill Cottage. Seeing Grayson put Perdy first, Rosemary began stirring up trouble between them.
[edit] Making friends in the village
Perdy made friends with Paul Lambert and Katie Sugden. She became friends with Paul after he rescued Grayson from being attacked by teenagers in a park in Hotten. She became friends with Katie Sugden after stabling her horse at Katie's stable business, run - at that time - from Butlers' Farm.
[edit] Health problems
In April, Perdy was thrilled to discover she was pregnant but was rushed to hospital after she collapsed. The doctor diagnosed a cornual ectopic pregnancy. Unfortunately this meant her pregnancy was attacking her body and she needed an emergency hysterectomy. Grayson told Perdy about the operation when she came round and Perdy went into denial, telling Grayson their marriage was over but he refused to leave. They talked at length about their marriage and decided to give it another try.
After her operation, Perdy began suffering insomnia and mood swings. Grayson was worried about her and booked her a doctor's appointment. He diagnosed depression and prescribed antidepressants. This wasn't the first time Perdy had suffered from depression.
While her husband and friends supported her, Rosemary began meddling with Perdy's medication. This led Perdy to think she was losing her mind - Rosemary wanted Perdy out of her and Grayson's lives for good, deciding she wasn't good enough for Grayson if she couldn't have children. Perdy was sectioned just as she discovered what Rosemary was doing.
While in hospital, Matthew visited her and they plotted to bring down Rosemary. When the truth was revealed, Grayson threw Rosemary out. Perdy was staying at Home Farm but returned to Grayson. The next day, she saw Rosemary in the pub and told everyone the truth about her "illness". Rosemary was deserted by the village, including Zak Dingle, who thought her behaviour was disgraceful. Perdy went home, packed her bags and left for London. In the days that followed, Grayson got drunk and made a pass at Perdy's friend, Paul. Paul pushed him away and Grayson called it a mistake, blaming the drink. He later followed Perdy to London.
[edit] Starting again
On Perdy's return, her heart was not in her marriage. Unable to forgive Grayson for taking his mother's side, she and Matthew grew closer and began an affair. Meanwhile, Grayson persuaded her to start a family using their friend, Katie, as surrogate. She agreed but further trouble between her and Grayson sent Perdy into Matthew's arms. After Matthew declared his feelings, Perdy agreed to leave Grayson but with Katie pregnant, they decided to wait until the baby was born.
Grayson found out about the affair and helped Rosemary frame Matthew for murder. When he was arrested and jailed, Perdy set out to clear his name. She, Jimmy and Carl succeeded on Christmas Day. Matthew was released that night and Perdy moved in with him at Home Farm. Unfortunately Katie's pregnancy gave Grayson the opportunity to cause trouble between Perdy and Matthew and they split two months later.
[edit] Departure
Weeks later, Perdy found out that Paul and Grayson had had a one night stand and left the village.
She returned in July 2008, shortly before Katie gave birth. Katie now knew what Grayson was really like. She and Perdy made friends again and Katie asked Perdy to look after the baby while she was at work, much to Grayson's dismay. She told Chas that Grayson had strung everyone along and Perdy was simply a victim of his lies.
When Katie gave birth, Perdy delivered the baby and later at the hospital, the ice was broken between her and Matthew. Katie and Matthew convinced Perdy to start a new life - just her and her son - and gave her £20,000. After some persuasion, she agreed that she should put her baby first and let Grayson look after himself. Perdy and her much longed-for baby son left the village. Grayson missed them by seconds and never saw the baby.
In later episodes, she sent a photo of herself and the baby to Matthew.
