Performance art refers to events in which one group of people (the performer or performers) behave in a particular way for another group of people (the audience).

Performance may also refer to:

  • A show in the performing arts (circus, theater, etc.)
  • The performative turn, a paradigmatic shift in the humanities and social sciences. Central to the performative turn is the concept of performance.
  • Performative text: in the philosophy of language, the notion of performance conceptualizes what a spoken or written text can bring about in human interactions.
  • A ritual in a religious or occult setting
  • The execution of an experiment in science, i.e., the carrying out of predetermined actions in a controlled environment
  • Linguistic performance, the act of producing an utterance
