[edit] History
In 1997, Andrew Greenawalt founded Cybergnostic, a managed network and security services company. Cybergnostic was an early instance of a centralized security platform along with the now defunct Pilot.net. This model of centralized security as a service later became known as 'security in the cloud' for which Perimeter now has US Patent 7,891,001. This invention is attributed to Andrew Greenawalt, Joel Nimety and Ron Fritz.
In 2000, Richard Dobrow co-founded Guarded Networks, a managed security services provider for customer premise equipment. Guarded Networks remotely managed customers' firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and networking equipment while providing centralized reporting via the BorderShield platform.
In 2001, Cybergnostic became the parent company of Perimeter Internetworking, a subsidiary focused on the financial industry. In 2004, Guarded Networks was acquired and the companies were aligned under the name Perimeter Internetworking [1] While still legally Perimeter Internetworking, Perimeter's brand is currently represented as Perimeter E-Security.
In late July, 2007, Goldman Sachs became the lead investor in Perimeter when it invested $50 million in the company.[2] As a follow-up to their initial investment just two weeks prior, Goldman Sachs provided equity financing, along with Bessemer Ventures and the Stripes Group to push the total amount invested to over $100 million.[3]
In August, 2007, Perimeter announced the acquisition of Denver-based USA.NET, a provider of secure messaging services. Perimeter also acquired the following companies: Edgeos Inc., SECCAS, Message Secure, ANE Technologies, Breakwater Security Associates, Red Cliff Solutions, US Networks Inc., Guarded Networks, iReadyWorld Services, and Threat Management, LLC.
In 2009, Perimeter E-Security appointed Tim Harvey as CEO.
Other members of Perimeter’s Executive Management Team include: Richard Dobrow - President/Chief Operating Officer, Andy Lazarus - Chief Financial Officer, Andrew Jaquith - Chief Technology Officer, Randal Skipper - Executive Vice President of Global Sales, John Viega - Executive Vice President - Products and Engineering. [4]
Currently, the company services over 6,000 clients, including over 1,800 financial institutions, and employs nearly 320 people globally.
