Periodontal diseases are those diseases that affect one or more of the periodontal tissues:
- alveolar bone
- periodontal ligament
- cementum
- gingiva
Plaque-induced periodontal diseases have traditionally been divided into two categories, gingivitis or periodontitis.[1]
