Philip Sidney, 2nd Viscount De L’Isle
Philip John Algernon Sidney, 2nd Viscount De L’Isle MBE, DL (born 21 April 1945) is a British peer and former soldier.
The eldest son of the 1st Viscount De L'Isle, Sidney was educated at Tabley House, Mons OCS and Sandhurst. After service in the Rifle Brigade, in 1966, he became a Major in the Grenadier Guards and took early retirement in 1979. He was appointed Vice-Lieutenant of Kent in 2002 and is also a Freeman of the City of London and a member of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. On 15 November 1980, he married Isobel Tresyllian Compton, the youngest daughter of the civil servant Sir Edmund Compton.[1] They have two children, Hon. Sophia Jacqueline Mary (born 1983) and Hon. Philip William Edmund (born 1985). Sidney succeeded to his father's titles in 1991.

- ^ Viscountess De L'Isle's parents are Sir Edmund Compton (1906-1994) and his wife Betty Tresyllian Williams (d. 1987), daughter of Hakewill Tresyllian Williams, of a Quaker carpet-making family from Kidderminster. Sir Edmund was born into a family that was involved in trade on his father's side with Chile and other South American countries. His father, also Edmund Compton, had won a gallant Military Cross in the First World War. His mother's family were mostly scholarly Church of England clergy. Her parents, who married in 1934, had one son and four daughters, of whom the youngest was Isobel. Sir Edmund Gerald Compton was the first and trail-blazing government ombudsman, properly titled the 'Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration'.
