Pioneer Trail Middle School is one of the eight middle schools in Olathe, Kansas.
The school opened in August 1986 and serves a diverse population. Its graduates go to Olathe East High School along with California Trail Junior High and Frontier Trail Junior High graduates, though students do have the choice of attending 1 of the other 3 Olathe High Schools too. Pioneer Trail traditionally has a rivalry with California Trail.
The school has four feeder elementary schools: Countryside Elementary, Walnut Grove Elementary, Indian Creek Elementary, and Heatherstone Elementary, the latter being split with California Trail as well.
The school mascot is the Black Panther. The school principal is Michael Wolgast. The assistant principals are Elaine Carpenter with JJ Libal. It has approximately 750 students and the school carries grades 6th-8th.
Combined 2006 and 2007 football seasons made 16-0 for the 2007 Freshman Football team, including two Olathe City Championships. In 2009 the 8th grade boys went undefeated and were city champions as well. The 2010 track season proved successful with its 9th grade boys, 9th grade girls, and 8th grade boys winning the city championship. The 8th grade girls and 7th grade boys both saw second place with 7th grade girls seeing 3rd place, ending an accomplished season. Pioneer Trail also has strengths in its performing arts with their choirs, drama program, orchestra, band, and drill team. The school has scored excellence in academics in recent years as well. Pioneer Trail Middle school also received an award for Kansas Middle School of the Year.
