This portal is a section of Wikipedia devoted to the Savoy (French Départements of Savoie and Haute-Savoie).


Welcome to the Portal of the Savoy, the Alpine region is the last territory acquired from France in 1860. It has about 1 million inhabitants, covering an area of 10 000 km², of the two départements rhonalpins of the Savoie (73) and of the Haute-Savoie (74) which form. Composed of six historical regions: the proper Savoy, Maurienne, Tarentaise, Chablais, Genevois and the Faucigny. Savoy is a former county, became imperial duchy, which was controlled by the House of Savoy, rulers of the States of Savoy.
