The Beatles were a highly successful and popular British rock band from Liverpool, England. They are widely regarded as the most influential rock band in history and are known world-wide. The Beatles continue to be a major influence on music well into the 21st century, having sold over a billion records overall. The Beatles paved the way for new musical styles and influenced cultural revolutions in the 1960s and 1970s. The members of the most famous line-up of the Beatles were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

Beatles for Sale by The Beatles (side 1) - Parlophone yellow and black label. This is an original pressing as the "Kansas City" track listing was not yet corrected.

Beatles for Sale is The Beatles' fourth album, released in late 1964 and produced by George Martin for Parlophone, released on mono (catalogue number PMC 1240) and stereo (PCS 3062). The album marked a minor turning point in the evolution of Lennon and McCartney as lyricists, Lennon particularly now showing interest in composing songs of a more autobiographical nature. "I'm a Loser" shows Lennon for the first time seemingly coming under the influence of Bob Dylan, soon to meet him for the first time in New York while on tour on 28 August 1964.

Almost everything The Beatles did was great, and it's hard to improve on. They were our Bach.

"Eleanor Rigby" featured on the Revolver album, and appeared as the B-side of Yellow Submarine. It features a double string quartet arrangement by George Martin, and striking lyrics about loneliness. Discussion has often been sparked about whether Rigby was based on a real person, but McCartney - the song's primary writer - denies that she was.
