Twilight is a series of four vampire-based fantasy/romance novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. It charts a period in the life of Isabella "Bella" Swan, a teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series is told primarily from Bella's point of view, with the epilogue of Eclipse and Part II of Breaking Dawn being told from the viewpoint of character Jacob Black, a werewolf. The unpublished Midnight Sun is a retelling of the first book, Twilight, from Edward Cullen's point of view.
Since the release of the first novel, Twilight, in 2005, the books have gained immense popularity and commercial success around the world. The series is most popular among young adults; the four books have won multiple awards, most notably the 2008 British Book Award for "Children's Book of the Year" for Breaking Dawn, while the series as a whole won the 2009 Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Book. As of November 2009, the series has sold over 85 million copies worldwide with translations into at least 38 different languages around the globe. The four Twilight books have consecutively set records as the biggest selling novels of 2008 on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list
All four books have been adapted into a series of motion pictures by Summit Entertainment; the film adaptation of Twilight was released in 2008 and the second, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, was released on November 20, 2009. The third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, was released June 30, 2010. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn was filmed in two parts; the first premiered in theaters November 18, 2011 and the second was released November 16, 2012.
New Moon is a fantasy-romance novel by author Stephenie Meyer, and is the second book in the Twilight saga. According to Meyer, this book is about losing true love. The title refers to the darkest phase of the lunar cycle, indicating that New Moon is about the darkest time of the protagonist Bella's life. The book was originally released in hardcover in 2006, following the successful publishing of Meyer's debut Twilight. An upcoming film adaptation is tentatively set for release on November 20th, 2009. Upon its publication in the United States, New Moon moved quickly to the top of bestseller lists, becoming one of the most anticipated books of the year. It peaked at #1 on both the New York Times Best Seller List and USA Today's Top 150 Bestsellers.
On Isabella "Bella" Swan's 18th birthday, Edward Cullen, the vampire she loves, and his family throw her a birthday party. While unwrapping a gift, she gets a paper cut, which causes Edward's adoptive brother, Jasper, to be overwhelmed by her blood's scent and attempt to kill Bella. To protect her, Edward decides to end their relationship, and the Cullens move away from Forks. This leaves Bella heart-broken. The following months leaves Charlie, Bella's father worried seeing she's depressed. Charlie is unable to see his only daughter hurting, and urges her to hang out with her friends instead of being so empty all the time. Edward Cullen (né Edward Anthony Masen) is a fictional character from Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. He features in the books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, as well as the Twilight film, and the as yet unfinished novel Midnight Sun - a re-telling of the events of Twilight from Edward's perspective. Edward is a vampire who, over the course of the Twilight series, falls in love with, marries, and has a child with Bella Swan, a human teenager who later chooses to become a vampire also. In the 2008 Twilight film, Edward is played by actor Robert Pattinson. The development of the character was influenced by Gilbert Blythe, Fitzwilliam Darcy, and Edward Rochester—particularly the latter, who, like Edward Cullen, sees himself as a "monster".
In Twilight, Edward meets Bella Swan, a human girl whose thoughts he is unable to read, and whose blood smells overwhelmingly sweet to him. He fights a growing attraction to her, but after saving her life on several occasions, he succumbs and eventually falls in love with her. Edward admits to Bella that he is a vampire, and that although he retains the physical body of a seventeen-year-old, he was actually born on June 20, 1901.
In New Moon, Edward goes through a situation which makes him firm on the decision of leaving Bella and is, therefore, challenged by his new rival and mortal enemy, Jacob Black, in Eclipse, who has made his place in Bella's heart.
In Breaking Dawn, Edward marries Bella and is very reluctant about their honeymoon with the reason being Bella's safety. After going through the shock of finding that Bella is pregnant, he soon faces more happiness than he has ever imagined he would get as he becomes the father of the half-vampire-half-human child Renesmee & Bella becomes a beautiful vampire with two unique gifts.
Throughout the Twilight series, Edward's feelings change in a great speed, which (according to Breaking Dawn) is because of the speed of the workings of his vampire mind.
