Portal editing[edit]

I'm curious why, after editing the Portal:Mars/Featured picture the new pic did not show up on the main page. Anything else that must be done? I realize the syntax for portal editing is relatively sophisticated.

It appears there is some sort of lag of half-an-hour or an hour for the changes to appear (at least on my browser). Anyhow, all changes are now up. The page is exactly one month old and there is a nice bit of serendipity in posting a new featured article and pic today. I'm going to drop the merge notice; there appears to be little support for it. Marskell 17:18, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Not forgotten[edit]

I'd just like to let everyone know that this Portal is not forgotten. I just updated the article and image and I'll try to get around to updating on like a schedule of once every two weeks. If you guys want to help me out, please go for it! --Cyde Weys votetalk 20:30, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

What's with the pink?[edit]

Mars is the God of War. Mars is the red planet. What's with all the pretty-in-pink layout? —Doug Bell talkcontrib 02:02, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

How do we edit the colour? Can't figure it out. Marskell 10:25, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
You edit Portal:Mars/Box-header. Good luck! Misza13 T C 17:29, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Wikiproject and Stubs[edit]

Just to let you know, Mars now has a Wikiproject about it's geograpical features - Wikipedia:WikiProject Martian Geography, and a new stub type, {{Mars-stub}}\Category:Martian stubs. --GW_Simulations 18:04, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

There is also a Wikiproject about it's spacecraft, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mars_Spacecraft. Tuvas 20:42, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Proposed change in structure[edit]

I'd like to make big changes to this page in an effort to overcome some of the problems with the 'watch' function on portal pages - since this page isn't used much it seems a good place to start - comments? sbandrews (t) 18:47, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Why?[edit]

Hi. Why is there a portal on mars but none of the other objects in the solar system? Thanks. AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx) 21:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Three years later...We are working on it. Now we have Portal:Mars, Portal:Uranus and Portal:Jupiter. Next up is Portal:Saturn. Feel free to comment here.--Novus Orator 11:08, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Portal:Mars[edit]

Hi, I would like some new thoughts on this portal. I have developed it in the recent months so it updates every month. Particularily, I would like comments about the news section and the image section. Thanks for taking your time to review this! Shrewpelt (talk) 17:02, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

  1. Like the colors, for the news section try the WikiNews Importer Bot.
  • Yes check.svg Done Or at least, I hope it is. Shrewpelt (talk) 15:28, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  1. All of the selected articles should be generally the same length.
  • Do you mean the length of the actual article, or the summary shown on the portal? Shrewpelt (talk) 14:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
  1. It would be nice if all the selected images had credits.
  1. The DYKs are missing a May section.
  • Yes check.svg Done Can't believe I missed that! Shrewpelt (talk) 14:07, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  1. Lastly, the edit section in the box headers would look cleaner without the arrow, and maybe a lighter blue by a few shades. If was hard to read on the LCD but fine on the CRT.
  • X mark.svg Not done I don't know how to do that. Could you direct me to a page that would tell how? Thanks, Shrewpelt (talk) 15:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Yes check.svg Done I changed the code around, hope that's okay with you. Still same colors. §tepshep¡Talk to me! 16:03, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Thanks for doing that! Shrewpelt (talk) 22:40, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Good job. §tepshep¡Talk to me! 23:17, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

  • I doubt it's just me, but with Firefox 2 on MacOS X the boxes look off: the header bar is below the line of the top of the box, but the "edit" link at the right of the box doesn't line up with the box title (so it's half in and half out of the header bar). If you can't see what I'm seeing, let me know and I'll fiddle with it myself. Msanford  T  03:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
    • Comment I don't have that problem with IE 7 Windows Vista... §tepshep¡Talk to me! 05:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I believe it's most common to put the Related Wikimedia, Related Portals, and Categories at the very bottom of the portal page. Not that not doing so is particularly problematic in itself, but people will probably expect to see it elsewhere. Others, feel free to give counter-opinions! Msanford  T  03:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Also, on the visual side of things, it looks sort of crammed together. Maybe add a few pixels between the boxes. §tepshep¡Talk to me! 05:36, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  1. This page (Portal:Mars/Mars news archive) Isn't needed with the bot functioning as it stands. But that doesn't matter really, just a pointer. §tepshep¡Talk to me! 16:06, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I am just using it as an archive for the news. Shrewpelt (talk) 22:40, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

New format[edit]

I'm going to change the format of the DYK? so it cycles, one for each month. Please tell me if you have any objections. Shrewpelt (talk) 13:05, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Featured Portal[edit]

Strange!! How it could be a featured portal? -- Extra999 (talk) 23:50, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Fixed portal[edit]

I brought the portal up to speed on every issue. Feel free to try tweaking the colors to get what you want.--Novus Orator 11:03, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
