Prairie Trail is one of the nine junior high schools in Olathe, Kansas. The school opened its doors in August 2004, and serves a diverse population. Graduates go to Olathe Northwest High School with select graduates of Oregon Trail Junior High and Santa Fe Trail Junior High.
The mascot is the husky and colors are navy blue and columbia blue. Prairie Trail offers a variety of clubs and activities for students, as well as a full array of sports opportunities. More than half of the teaching staff holds master's degrees in their subject areas. It has approx. 900 students.
The core classes at Prairie Trail for 7th-8th grade are divided into teams. The 7th graders are divided into team Yukon, Glacier, and Tundra. The 8th graders are divided into team Patriot, Freedom, and Liberty.
