In the 1910, construction began on what is now US-23, opening northern Michigan in general, and this area around Grand Lake specifically, to more tourism. The Presque Isle Lodge was constructed in 1920 by Newell A. Eddy Jr. of Bay City It operated as a hotel until 1978. In 1989, it reopened as a bed and breakfast.
The Presque Isle Lodge is a 10,000 square foot building. The Eddys had, for some time, been crafting rustic log furniture, and continued manufacturing at this site under the name "Habitant Shops, Inc." The lodge contains a large collection of their work.
