According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 51.5 square miles (133.4 km²), of which, 49.4 square miles (128 km²) of it is land and 2.1 square miles (5.0 km²) of it (4.08%) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,014 people, 439 households, and 292 families residing in the township. The population density was 20.5 people per square mile (7.9/km²). There were 983 housing units at an average density of 19.9/sq mi (7.8/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.6% White, 0.1% Native American, 0.4% Asian, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.
There were 439 households out of which 20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% were non-families. 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.81.
