Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Hohenberg (22 December 1922 – 22 November 2011) was a Luxembourgian princess, a daughter of Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. To commemorate the birth, the following year Luxembourg issued a stamp as a souvenir sheet, the world's first such miniature sheet.[2]


Princess Elisabeth was born in Luxembourg on 22 December 1922 and spent part of her childhood in London during World War II. With her sister Princess Marie Adelaide of Luxembourg, they both attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, Roehampton in Britain.

Marriage and issue[edit]

Born as Princess of Luxembourg, Princess of Nassau, Princess of Bourbon-Parma, she married Franz, Duke of Hohenberg (1927–1977) in Luxembourg on 9 May 1956. He was a grandson of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination in 1914 sparked World War I.

They had two children:

  • HSH Princess Anna (Anita) Charlotte Maximiliana Euphemia Maria Helena of Hohenberg (born 18 August 1958, Berg Castle), married 1978 Romée de La Poëze Count d'Harambure (divorced 1998). They have four children:
    • Gaetan de la Poeze, Count d'Harambure (1980)
    • Alix de la Poeze, Countess d'Harambure (1981), married in 2010 to Francois-Xavier Fraye (1979):
      • Armel Fraye (2011)
      • Benedikt Fraye (2013)
    • Gabriel de la Poeze, Count d'Harambure (1987)
    • Raoul de la Poeze, Ct d'Harambure (1989)

Anita married secondly in 2005 Graf Andreas Ernestus Pius Albertus Magnus Marie Therese von Bardeau (born 13 February 1957)

  • HSH Princess Sophie Felicitas Elisabetha Bona Maria Antonia of Hohenberg (born 10 May 1960, Berg Castle), married 1983 Jean-Louis Marie René Ghislain de Potesta (born 8 February 1951). They have three children:
    • Eleonore de Potesta (1984), married in 2012 to Diego Fernandez de Cordova y Cervero (1979):
      • Rafael Fernandez de Cordova y de Potesta (2013)
    • Charles de Potesta (1985)
    • Elizabeth de Potesta (1988)

Princess Elisabeth returned to Luxembourg after her husband's death and died at Fischbach Castle on 22 November 2011 aged 88. She was buried at Artstetten Castle in Austria.
