Project Planet Bioia
|Type||Collaborative Creative Effort|
|Founded||August 27, 2010|
|Motto||Where Fiction Saves Fact!|
Project Planet Bioia is a not-for-profit collaborative creative effort. It is the first project ever to combine social media with imagination and creativity. Registered users submit their fictitious written and pictorial entries of the fictional planet, Bioia, to the Project website. The output of such mass-collaboration will be a coffee-table book/fictional-encyclopedia. The profits generated from the sales will be donated to environmental preservation charities who require funding for their projects (e.g. purchasing land to prevent deforestation). The reasoning behind Project Planet Bioia is that due human imagination and creativity being free, a quality product can be created at a greatly reduced production cost, maximizing profits, and potential donations.
Planet Bioia is inhabited by an alien race known as the Acroans, who have managed to progress for 500,000 years, while still preserve their environment from destruction. They, and the planet, are the subject of entries sent to the Project.
Project Planet Bioia is the first ever collaborative creative effort with the hopes of protecting the environment. Users submit fictional written and picture content, with the goal of creating a quality book that will be sold to generate donations for environmental preservation projects that require funding to complete their goals that directly affect the environment.
When creating a submission, users are encouraged to learn about the Earth and nature's diversity and other topics of interest. This is meant to further show why the Earth needs protecting and how they are contributing to an important cause.
It is important to note, that when a user submits any kind of entry to the website they are relinquishing all copyrights to Project Planet Bioia, and no longer own any portion of the content. This is to ensure no legal battles arise following publication of the book with which the content submitted is created.
The concept of Project Planet Bioia was first thought of several months prior to the creation of the official website. Over those months the concept was continually scrutinized and shaped into the first website and trailer. Originally, pictures were not accepted with submissions but a year later that was changed so there would be more content, and authors of submissions could easily depict what they were describing.
Official non-profit status is currently pending while all required papers are filled out and filed.
The Acroans are a highly advanced, and efficient, alien race inhabiting Planet Bioia. Their civilization has existed for nearly 500,000 years and throughout this time they have learned to progress and develop new technology while ultimately preserving their environment for future generations. They have done so by putting their world before their own needs, and have created nature preserves and used only clean technology. War is almost non-existent, and they could be described as a perfect race of beings.
Traits such as greed and jealousy in humans do not exist in the Acroans. Instead, they are a very generous species and are scientifically driven. Because of this, Acroans rarely earn wages for their work, instead everyone, from a mechanic to an astronomer does their work for free solely because they enjoy it. (e.g. Farmers grow and produce food for free, with the help of a few machines, because they know it is important for the continuation of their species and that their work is crucial part of their species progress. In return they receive shelter and needed items for free as well, because they were created at no cost.)
On the Project website, it is stated that "Humans should look up to the Acroans and how they managed to survive for so long, so we too can prosper and progress, without destroying our home."
