Prophet's Day (Bengali: নবী দিবস, Arabic: يوم النّبي‎, Urdu: نبي کے دن‎ and Persian: روز پیامبر‎) is a religious holiday of Islam.[1] As a religious holiday, it is observed on the 29th of August[2][3] every year; the date commemorates the date of the prophet Mohammed’s first appearance, or Mawlid al-Nabi, August 29, 570 AD.[4]

History[edit]

Sufi Sayed Zafor Sadek,[5] the surviving Sufi Master of the Rahe Bhander Sufi Order, initiated this event on August 29, 2013. Sadek thought that society was forming a common 'frowning and disrespecting' view about prophets. He wanted to create an event to boost global awareness of the need to love and respect prophets of every era, in a world that was becoming increasingly litigious and cynical and driven by superficial pursuits like fame and celebrity.

Sadek and the followers of the Rahe Bhander Sufi Order made the decision to create Prophet's Day on July 7, 2013. The entire global community is encouraged to observe Prophet's Day. In Sadek's native Bengali language the day is called নবী দিবস (Nobi Dibos). This was later this was translated into Prophet's Day, Youm Al-Nabi (Arabic: يوم النّبي), Nobi-Ka Din (Urdu: نبي کے دن) or Rouz-e Paiamber (Persian: روز پیامبر).

Inauguration[edit]

Its first celebration took place at Chittagong in Bangladesh on August 29, 2013[6][7][8][9]
