Pulau Perak (Perak Island, literally "Silver Island" in Malay) is a small rocky island which constitutes the westernmost extremity of Malaysian territory. The island is a granite rock that rises from the Strait of Malacca.
Pulau Perak is part of the Malaysian state of Kedah and was expected to be designated as a marine protected area.
On March 11, 2014, it was reported that Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, missing since March 8 while en-route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was last picked up on radar at 2:40 AM near Pulau Perak, hundreds of miles away from its original course.
