[edit] University affiliation
PICT is affiliated to the University of Pune and offers Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degrees under the university.
[edit] Accreditation
PICT has been audited[4] by Det Norske Veritas [DNV] and accredited under ISO 9001:2000 in the USA and in the European Union. It is also accredited for high quality education by India's 2 major accreditation agencies - National Assessment & Accreditation Council [NAAC] and National Board of Accreditation [NBA]. It is recognized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, [IEEE], USA, as having "an excellent environment, pretty much similar to the universities abroad". The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research of the Ministry of Science & Technology (Government of India) has recognized this institute as a Center of Research & Development. The All India Council of Technical Education and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Government of India) have recognized PICT as an institute of advanced engineering education.
[edit] Specializations and departments
The years when various engineering specializations were introduced are as follows:
[edit] Computer Engineering-1983
Head of Department: Professor Rajesh B. Ingle
Undergraduate Intake per year: 120
PICT’s academic activities commenced with the creation of the Computer Engineering Department in 1983. This was India's first independent Computer Science Department. The CE course at PICT is highly regarded, and is one of the most sought after computer undergraduate program under the Pune University.
[edit] Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering- 1995
Head of Department: Professor Satish S. Narkhede
Undergraduate Intake per year: 90
Established in 1995, this department is well known for maintaining high standards in education, ethics and disciple. It is one of the best equipped Electronics department under the Pune University with state of art equipment like DSO's (Digital Storage Oscillators), Spectrum analyzers and a well furnished DSP lab with around 25 Texas and Motorola experimental kits. The E&TC department has won the “Best Department Award” in the years 2003 and 2004. In 2009-2010, the ENTC department had the highest MHT-CET cut-off in University of Pune of 188/200.
[edit] Information Technology Engineering- 2001
Head of Department: Professor Girish Potdar
Undergraduate Intake per year: 120
PICT’s Bachelor of Engineering Program in Information Technology commenced from the academic year 2001-2002 with an intake capacity of 60 students. The current intake capacity has doubled to 120 students. It has well equiped Multimedia Laboratory, Operating System Laboratory and Network Laboratory along with the programming and Project Laboratories.
[edit] M.E. Computers-2000
Head of Department: Professor Shyamkant A. Kulkarni
Graduate Intake per year: 25
This department is the Post Graduate Wing of the Computer Engineering Department at PICT. It has been pioneered as the first Post Graduate Department in Computer Engineering in the unaided Engineering Colleges in the Pune University. For almost 13 years after the first batch of B.E.Computer Engineering passed out of PICT no facility for post graduation existed for Computer Engineering graduates in the non-aided sector. This void was filled by the M.E. course offered by the Computer Engineering Department.
[edit] M.E. Microwave Engineering-2006
Head of Department: Dr. A.P. Dhande
Graduate Intake per year: 18
[edit] Degrees awarded
The Bachelor of Engineering or the BE degree is offered in all the aforementioned departments. ME degree is offered by the Computer engineering and the Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering departments. As PICT is affiliated with the University of Pune, the degrees are offered by the university.
[edit] Admissions
PICT is among the most selective engineering colleges in Maharashtra and admissions are competitive and based on merit. The institute considers the CET and AIEEE scores of students for admissions. The cut-off percentages are within the top 15% of high-school graduates. There are also programs for children of non-resident Indians (NRIs)in the college.
[edit] Activities
[edit] Impetus and Concepts
It is a national level inter-college technical event organized each year in the month of March. "Impetus and Concepts", popularly known as INC, was initiated in 1990 and soon reached a stage where it generated national and international interest. It won acclaim and corporate houses recognized its importance and actively supported the event. It is one of the most prestigious technical event in Pune, with prizes worth more than Rs. 10 lakh distributed each year. The even is organized in two stages-
Impetus serves as a prelude to Concepts. It is a project competition cum exhibition where final year PICT students compete amongst themselves for top honors and recognition. The best ideas are then selected to represent PICT and compete on a national level in the next stage, Concepts.
Concepts Concepts is a national level competition, where in select students from all over India present their projects. In Concepts, skills and practical as well as theoretical ideas are assessed by renowned technical experts from industries and academicians.
[edit] Credenz
It is a National Level Technical Symposium organized by the PICT-IEEE Student Branch. CREDENZ has been organized for the past 5 years and it has carved a niche for itself as being one of the most regarded state level technical events. At the heart of event is a technical paper presentation competition which provides a competitive platform to engineering students pursuing Computer, Electronics & Telecommunication, Information Technology and other related engineering fields. This competition draws entries from some of the finest colleges in the state and has a distinguished panel of judges comprising of distinct academicians and industry experts.
Credenz has been backed consistently by the IT industry. Some of the corporate houses which have extended active support include Microsoft,Cognizant, IND PRO, Persistent, Code Chef, Career Launcher, Kyrion Digital Securities, Pune Diary, Only Gizmos, Eminence Graphics, Aricent, Pune User Group, Student Tech Clubs,Microsoft Student Partners and IEEE.
[edit] Abhivyaktee
It is a multi-art-form presentation put up by freshers, with special guidance from seniors over a period of a week. PICT also has a group called Art Circle for encouraging artistic pursuits among its students. The Art Circle also takes active part in dramatics competitions like the Purushottam Karandak and the Firodiya Karandak.
