Q69K is a Nicaraguan punk band formed around 2001, primarily around the capital city of Managua.
[edit] History
After several changes to their style of music and a "revolving door" of band members in their early years, Q69K is formed by 2 "Nicas" and a "gringo": Rodrigo on drums and vocals, Erwin Costa on the bass and vocals, and Jason Thompson on guitar and vocals.
Having their ups and downs with gigs, recordings and internal problems, Q69K has managed to stay strong and find their own niche in the Nicaraguan rock scene, which is dominated by metal music. Their national identity has molded the band greatly, and they feel that their Nicaraguan roots have made them a group of individuals that are dedicated and strong in their beliefs.
During the past years, Q69K has managed to tour a great majority of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama with plans to soon visit Guatemala and El Salvador.
In May 2006, Q69K was part of the International guests in HopeFest Costa Rica. Also in February 2006, Q69K opened for the legendary band Strung Out.
During the 2007, Q69K opened for Pxndx in Managua, Nicaragua. The band also contributed to the relief of the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua, affected by hurricane FELIX, playing in a benefit concert with many important national bands.
Q69K is now realizing their first album, named "Esclavos De La Aceleracion" on the 19th of November 2009.
Now they are looking forward to start their new tour, that would cover major cities of Mexico and the United States.
[edit] Musical style
Q69Ks music has always evolved due to the musical preferences of its members. Mauricio Conrado (also known as Cueriux), the last founding member of the band, injects an alternative and progressive feel to the band's punk rock sound. Jason and Erwin have both been greatly influenced by melodic punk, hardcore, and ska music. Their varied influences contribute to a diverse sound and energetic, entertaining shows.
