Ray Phillips ( (b. Raymond Anthony Phillips, 1 March 1949, Ely, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, South Wales)[citation needed], was the original drummer for the Influential Welsh rock band Budgie. He left the band in 1974.[1]

Ray formed his own band in the mid 70s known as Ray Phillips Woman - they pursued a relentless touring schedule - former Budgie guitarist Tony Bourge joined the band in the eraly 80s and became known as simply Woman. In 1982 he rejoined original Budgie guitarist Tony Bourge and formed Tredegar.

In the 1990s, Ray founded another band under the moniker of 'Six Ton Budgie', alongside his son Justin Phillips on guitar and Tom Prince on bass. Ray, alongside playing drums, also took over on lead vocals. The band toured the UK extensively for the next few years.

In 2008 he was working on a solo album.[2]

May 2011 saw the release of Ray's solo album entitled 'Judgement Day'. Previews can be heard on Ray's Myspace page. It contains the trademark Heavy Rock music that he is associated with and also works of a more gentle nature, which contains some stunning melodies and heartfelt lyrics.

Ray is looking towards releasing another album sometime in 2012.
