The Ray Processing Unit (RPU) is experimental ray tracing hardware device, developed at the Saarland University. It will be 50-100 times faster than the most advanced graphics processing unit.[citation needed]
Unlike the previous SaarCOR architecture, which could do only predefined operations, RPU is programmable.
