The firm was established in 2002, and is an affiliate of Brookfield Residential Property Services, a global provider of real estate and relocation services. In 2009, GMAC Real Estate was merged into the company.[2]

The firm won the award for Best Web site from Luxury Real Estate;[citation needed] it also won a PRism Award from the Public Relations Society of America for its Real Living Magazine and Web site[citation needed]
In the 2008 Swanepoel Trends Report Real Living was named "Most Promising New Brand."[citation needed]
The brand and its innovative concepts were recognized as one of the best by Entrepreneur magazine;[citation needed] and won the Inman Innovator Award.[citation needed] In 2009, Real Living maintained an industry-leading customer satisfaction rating of 96 percent based upon research by an independent research firm.[citation needed]
