On 25 June 2012 it was announced Global Radio (the owner of stations such as Capital and Heart) had bought GMG Radio. The former GMG stations, including Real Radio, continued to operate separately as 'Real and Smooth Limited' until 1 April 2014.
On 6 February 2014, Global Radio announced it would be rebranding all Real Radio stations as Heart. On 1 May 2014, local programming moved from Tingley, Wakefield to share facilities with sister station Capital Yorkshire in Hanover Walk, Leeds.
The full relaunch as Heart Yorkshire took place on Tuesday 6 May 2014. Local programming is retained at breakfast and drivetime on weekdays and on weekend afternoons. Networked programming from Salford was replaced by Heart's networked output from Global's Leicester Square headquarters in London. The station's audience share increased slightly from 5.5% to 5.7% following the relaunch.
Heart Yorkshire broadcasts local news bulletins each day - updates air hourly from 6am to 7pm on weekdays and from 6am to 12pm at weekends. In addition, a ten-minute programme, Heart Nightly News, airs each weeknight at 6.45pm. Heart's Yorkshire news team also produces bulletins for Capital Yorkshire. National news updates from Global's London headquarters air each hour at all other times, except during The Vodafone Big Top 40.
