Requests for page protection

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, move-protected, or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
Add a level 4 header (i.e. ==== {{lx|Example}} ====, where "x" stands for the namespace) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
- If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
- If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
- Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.

This article was among those (others being: Progesterone, Soybean, Soy protein, Combined oral contraceptive pill, Percy Lavon Julian) that were to be semi-protected for a month yesterday. Indefinite semi-protection This article is constantly vandalised since years, its edit history is an useless mess of history of vandalism, and the job of constantly reverting vandalism distracts editors from doing improvements elsewhere. Rarely have been IP edits useful on this page. It has been protected previously in 2008, 2009, 2010 for shorter periods, including with pending changes, but once unprotected the same pattern of persistent vandalism returns. Edit-warring about Gaudí's characterisation as "Spanish Catalan" and vandalism by kids excited of his architecture are unlikely to cease in the near future. The article has been recently lifted to GA class and now the risk is of reducing the current quality and continuing to waste editor time. --ELEKHH^T 19:53, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
