Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, move-protected, or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 4 header (i.e. ==== {{lx|Example}} ====, where "x" stands for the namespace) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note: this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

[edit] Current requests for protection

Place requests for semi-protection, full protection, move protection, or create protection at the TOP of this section. Check the list of denied requests if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Chandradhar Sharma Guleri (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Shriram (talk) 15:21, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] The Dubs (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Continuing random IP vandalism - according to a message on the talk page, the article is being targeted by members of the 4chan group. Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:30, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. The main culprit is now blocked. I wouldn't put too much stock in that warning--if it was 4chan, you'd know it from the history. Drmies (talk) 15:00, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Caste Groups of India (Kongu Vellalar) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This template has been the subject of errant contributions by numerous socks of Pondheepankar in the past. The latest series of IP edits have all the trademarks of that. I've opened a discussion on the talk page. Sitush (talk) 10:35, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Not yet, Sitush. You're dealing with a few IPs (not for the first time, haha), and it's nothing we can't handle (yet). I've reverted and warned the editor; let's see if they get to be blockable or if there is clear evidence of disruptive IP hopping. Happy days, Drmies (talk) 15:02, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Kenneth Fisher (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Removal of article content by various IP users and an account which has been blocked. See article history which shows continuous edit warring for over 3 weeks now. The User:94.192.166.75 and User:Andrewjames1977 had already been blocked before for 1 week and have been suspected of sock puppetry. It has also recently been edited in the same way by another IP address. Therefore temporary semi-protection on the article is needed. Thank you TheGeneralUser (talk) 10:26, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month. After 1 month the page will be automatically unprotected. Materialscientist (talk) 10:52, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your help Materialscientist. TheGeneralUser (talk) 12:27, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Born to Die (Lana Del Rey album) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Massive amounts of WP:OR and Vandalism by wide range of IPs. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 07:12, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected Lakeshade, I did not want to revert to your last version, since some valuable content was also added. I've protected for three days (until after the release); perhaps you can have another look and at the very least undo the genre-warring. Drmies (talk) 15:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Partial protection due to vandalism has been suggested on the article's Talk page since January 16,[1] without objection; I was initially neutral but now request semi-protection due to giant additions January 21 and today by WP:SPAs apparently trying to turn it from a general audience encyclopedia article into a partisan rally with uncritical sales pitches marketing the legislation to particular constituencies: [2][3]. Please semi-protect until after the November election.TVC 15 (talk) 05:35, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] W.E. (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Catherine Huebscher, article has become the target for this foul and banned user, making personal attacks, deleting sourced content, adding purely biased negative reviews etc. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:46, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Elimination Chamber (2012) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP users continuously add unsourced content to the page. JC Talk to me My contributions 04:16, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  15:18, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Mammootty (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism. Time and effort of several editors wasted in maintaining the article. Austria156 (talk) 01:43, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  15:13, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Deuce (singer) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Multiple IP addresses adding unsourced content and speculation. If this article is deleted as well, it may need to be salted. We will wait and see for that, though. -- Luke (Talk) 00:50, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. If the AfD comes up in favour of deletion, re-request salting if necessary. GedUK  15:08, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Right-to-work law (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Unregistered editors keep adding "Indiana" to the list even though the measure has not been passed. Disclosure - I support the measure but don't want to insert misinformation which is distracting to the other editors and which prevents further serious progress on the article. We have enough trouble as it is!  :) Suggest two weeks. Law will not go into effect immediately IF it is passed anyway. And current registered editors are prepared to insert the information. Student7 (talk) 00:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks. After 2 weeks the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  15:05, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Privat Group (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Persistent revert warring by an anon over the same issue of common knowledge. Ukrained (talk) 22:30, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. At this stage its not at protection level. If it needs any protection it should be full, not semi. GedUK  15:02, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] KLM destinations (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Full-protection: Edit warring. Jetstreamer (talk) 21:06, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Fully protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  15:00, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Java (programming language) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Jasper Deng (talk) 20:08, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 6 months. After 6 months the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:57, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Geography of Taiwan (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP editor in known range of banned sockpuppeter revert warring to a redlink in the main definition. The pipe target isn't an article, and a synonym for the target (Taiwan archipelago) is at AfD and not going well. . SchmuckyTheCat (talk) 19:09, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Declined At this point it's the same IP; it would be better to take action against them, probably via SPI if you think it's the same person as before. GedUK  13:55, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Big Time Rush (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Some vandalism last few days. -- Luke (Talk) 17:26, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. GedUK  13:49, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Amarinder Singh (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection - Anon. IP addresses have been repeatedly blanking sections and removing information. It appears to be the same person using different IP addresses, including, 117.197.145.199, 117.197.147.218 and most recently, 117.197.156.209. Gsingh (talk) 16:51, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

  • Note: The IP address has been unresponsive to my contact attempts so far. Gsingh (talk) 16:59, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:47, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Joey Richter (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection - Request for re-instatement of protection. Previous protection did not deter vandals. --Mimi C. (talk) 15:42, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks. After 3 weeks the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:45, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Paweł Brożek (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Excessive changing of his club by IP editors since yesterday. There is no official announcement that he changed the club yet. Now also a vandalism show up[4]. Oleola (talk) 14:37, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:40, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Chinese) (edit|project page|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Continued sockpuppetry from banned user User:Instantnood. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 11:34, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

This is part of a vote scam. It is already reported to WP:AN/I. 61.18.170.81 (talk) 17:47, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
I support this request. I don't believe all IPs are one user, but I do believe the vast majority are disruptive. Since this disruption is on multiple pages, and asking for semi-protection of talk pages is drastic, I will later propose a series of anon-only soft blocks of IP addresses functioning as open proxies that can be confined to a geographic location. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
Already protected by Elockid (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights) GedUK  13:36, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Western world (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism by IPs 39.48. ... Fama Clamosa (talk) 11:08, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 2 week. After 2 week the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:38, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Abhishek (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Ip users persist in repeatedly creating an article over this DAB, despite being warned / attempts to explain; I've even put a comment in the source. But, check the history. It was protected for the same reason previously, too.  Chzz  ►  10:07, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months. After 3 months the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:33, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Talk:China (edit|article|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – sock puppets of User:Instantnood still active - no other IP editors contributing. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 09:43, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

This is part of a vote scam. It is already reported to WP:AN/I. 61.18.170.81 (talk) 17:47, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Orissa (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism/revert wars over name change of the article. Amartyabag TALK2ME 07:07, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month. After 1 month the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  13:30, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Battle of Panipat (1761) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection for indefinite time : High level of vandalism by IP socks of banned User:Mughal Lohar. He is trying to change the entire content of the article. I further request the administrators to block the entire range of IP address of the sock user. He is constantly editing from the same range of IPs (1.82...........) like 182.182.25.43.

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months. After 3 months the page will be automatically unprotected. I can't do rangeblocks, or work out if it's possible. Best to ask at WP:AN GedUK  13:25, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Current requests for unprotection

Shortcuts:

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you want an existing page unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Current requests for edits to a protected page

Shortcut:
Ideally requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here
  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both locked, this project page is the right place to request an edit. If you can, please use the {{la|article name}} template to describe the article you wish changed at the start of your request.
