[edit] Plot

Tuvok and B'Elanna Torres are captured and imprisoned during an away mission to obtain a chemical vital to Voyager's systems from a black market. Captain Janeway is injured and is rescued by local a man named Caylem who believes her to be his daughter.

The action takes place on a planet inhabited by the Alsaurians (amongst whom Neelix has contacts) who are suffering occupation under the aggressive Mokra.

Eventually, Caylem helps Janeway to gain entrance into the caves where Tuvok and B'Elanna are being held prisoner and releases them. They are soon after seized by the Mokra prison guards. The Mokra commanding officer, Augris, tells Caylem that his real daughter was shot trying to help release his wife a long time ago and his wife died in the prison. Before Augris can interrogate Captain Janeway with the brutal methods that he used on Tuvok, Caylem attacks the commander still believing that Janeway is his daughter. He stabs Augris during the fight, but is shot by two prison guards before they can be stopped.

Janeway is sorrowful when Caylem is fatally injured, and she tells him the commander was lying about his daughter being shot and she also mentions that his wife forgave him for his past actions, and she wanted him to accept that. "My sweet girl" are Caylem's last words before he dies in her arms and Janeway is saddened at his death. Back on Voyager, Janeway ponders over the daughter's precious metal necklace that he presented to her, and which she keeps to remind herself of his kindness.
