The retroactive Conn Smythe list is a list of probable winners of the Conn Smythe Trophy for each of the years it was not officially awarded - from 1917-18 to 1963-64. The list was created by a group of Canadian hockey historians and was promoted on the Hockey Hall of Fame website.[1]

The list was created with great effort. As there is little video footage of the Stanley Cup playoffs from the mid-1950s through the mid-1960s, and virtually none from before that period, the members of the group scoured newspaper microfilm and stat sheets for anecdotes and quotes about each postseason.

The multiple winners include Ted Kennedy (3), Jack Darragh (2), Terry Sawchuk (2), and Maurice Richard (2).
