[edit] History
Cleveland Unlimited purchased Northcoast PCS[2] in July 2004 from former owner Cablevision. The new owners, venture capital firms M/C Venture Partners and Columbia Capital[1] have since invested significantly into the company to improve its network and service. The original Northcoast name was kept in service until 2005, when the Company relaunched with the Revol brand, new plans and many new towers. Currently, Revol has some coverage in and around the cities of Indianapolis, Indiana, Anderson, Indiana, Muncie, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Columbus, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dayton, Ohio Toledo, Ohio,Youngstown, Ohio, New Castle, Pennsylvania, Akron, Ohio, Wooster, Ohio, Canton, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky, Buffalo, New York as well as other areas. Revol also has National Extended Coverage Area, available for $5/month, which coveres most major cities in the United States. As Revol is not a MVNO, it actually owns and operates its own tower system, through purchases of part of the Cricket network and its own holdings gained from Northcoast PCS. Revol currently has about 200,000 customers.[citation needed]
[edit] Payment
Revol currently charges an additional $5 fee to pay a bill, if the bill is paid inside a store location or paid over the phone while speaking with a customer service representative (versus using the automated system). Basic activation is $35 plus the cost of a phone and your first 15 days of service is free (if you purchase a phone from Revol). Revol can now use phones from other networks to set up a plan, utilizing CDMA hardware. Phones are shut off at midnight on the due date with a $15 reconnection fee if payment is not received. If a Revol customer changes residence a number change can be attained for $25 (this fee is usually waived if the customer is receiving harassing phone calls). Call Records can be received for $20 per month, per line. Payment for services as well as activation fees are non-refundable.
[edit] Features
All of Revol's features are completely unlimited. Unlimited Revol PTT (Push To Talk) is only capable with other Revol phones. Unlimited web browsing is also an available feature. Unlimited picture mail is available, but it is only capable with other Revol phones. Revol also features "National Extended Coverage", at the cost of $5 per month, which covers most major cities outside of their main coverage area. Revol can now flash non-Revol phones over to their network (most CDMA phones will work Sprint, Verizon, and Alltel), however there is a $20.00 charge to do so[citation needed].
[edit] Warranty
New Revol phones come with a one-year manufacturer's limited warranty, which can be handled directly through the manufacturer (plus shipping cost) or for free through full service centers (during the first 60 days of use, after that it is $25). Insurance is also available at $5 a month per phone; you are limited to 2 claims in any 12-month period per wireless subscription, and there is a deductible at the time of fulfillment, which is based on the value of your handset.[citation needed]
