[edit] Ridge Racer DS
Ridge Racer DS is a video game based on the Nintendo 64 version of Ridge Racer. The game was remade to make use of features on the DS such as the touch-screen and wireless multi-player while providing otherwise a very similar experience to its original counter-part. Noticeable differences are:
- 1. Turns are easier and have to brake less or not at all in some turns
- 2. Trophies are given out of order
- 3. Different menu system.
- a.) Game is lacking the choice of drifting and/or collision based on Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer Revolution or Ridge Racer 64
- b.) Menu is horizontal when choosing cars and track to race
- c.) The cars have little different stats and they are point based instead of bars
- 4. Reiko Nagase is replaced by Gina Cavalli from R: Racing Evolution
- 5. Collision with other cars doesn't lose as much speed.
- 6. Graphics are update with DS logo on cars instead of 64
- 7. There is no rear view mirror in 1st person mode
- 8. The word "TIME" is blue and the number is still orange
- 9. During the Ridge Racer DS debut, this game has the same as ridge racer 64 opening movie but unfortunately, this Nintendo 64 logo gets replaced with the Nintendo DS logo and the rotating N from N64 is nowhere to be found.
- 10. The announcer has a different voice saying "Alright! This is gonna be a great race.
- 11. Some of the special bonus cars have been altered into cars that feature Mario, Luigi, DK, Shyguy and others on them, than their original 64 versions.
- 12. Also, a bonus 'Mushroom Kingdom II' song (taken from the NES Super Mario Bros. 2) is included as well.
This game was released on December 7, 2004 and rated Everyone by the ESRB (The Entertainment Software Rating Board). However this game is not rated by PEGI from Europe.
