Riot Act Media' is a boutique publicity firm that expertly launches creative, communication-based, artist-friendly campaigns for clients in the independent music and arts worlds. Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2005 by David Lewis, In November 2005 Riot Act relocated to New Haven, Connecticut In the spring of 2007, Riot Act relocated back to Chicago, additionally hiring Seattle-based ex-Hopper PR and Sub Pop publicist Joan Hiller as chief publicist. In late 2007, Joan Hiller became owner and operator, as Lewis traded publicity in for other music business-related pursuits as an industry consultant at Columbia College Chicago. Publicist Sheila Kenny (formerly of Tag Team Media) joined the company, but later left to start her own publicity firm, Right On! PR, which she now owns and operates out of Austin, TX. Hiller (married name: Joan Hiller Depper) moved Riot Act Media to its current location in Portland, Oregon in the fall of 2008. In 2009, ex-Hush Records consultant and musician Dave Depper (Loch Lomond, Norfolk & Western, Jolie Holland), Hiller Depper's husband, became the company's business manager.
