[edit] Career
[edit] Barnsley
Williams came through the youth ranks with Barnsley, playing over fifty first-team games. He made his debut on 5 October 2002, against Brentford.
On 22 March 2007, Williams joined Blackpool on loan until the end of the season. He scored on his debut for the Seasiders, in a 3-1 win at Bradford City, two days later.[1]
On 17 April 2007, Williams was named in the Press Association's League One "Team of the Week".[2]
Williams concluded his loan spell at Blackpool by scoring the first of their two goals — a thirty-yard free-kick (to which the commentators summed up with "Let me entertain you," in reference to his namesake) — in the League One play-off final victory against Yeovil Town at Wembley.[3]
[edit] Huddersfield Town
On 11 July, it was revealed that Huddersfield Town manager Andy Ritchie had an offer for Williams accepted, with personal terms agreed on 13 July, but the following day during his medical, it was revealed that he had a hairline fracture, with the deal virtually collapsed. However, after he was given time to recover from his injury he was signed by the Terriers on 24 August 2007 for an undisclosed fee.
He finally made his first team debut for the Terriers in their 4-0 defeat by Leeds United at Elland Road on 8 December 2007. He scored his first goal for the club in Town's 1-1 draw at the Withdean Stadium, against Brighton & Hove Albion. That was also Town's first ever goal at the Withdean Stadium. On 5 April, he scored his first goal at the Galpharm Stadium when he gave Huddersfield the lead against local rivals Doncaster Rovers. The match ended 2-2.
On 5 December 2009, following scoring 3 goals along with a string of good performances, Williams was named the League One Player of the Month for November.
Following the signing of Australian international Dean Heffernan and the emergence of Lee Peltier as a left-back, Williams was left out of the side for most of the latter part of the season, and at the end of it, he was released by manager Lee Clark.
[edit] Stockport County
Williams signed for League 2 Stockport County on 6 August 2010 becoming their sixth summer signing.[4] On 31 August 2010 it was announced that he had joined the club on a full-time basis.[5] He scored his first goal for the club on 16 October 2010 as part of the 2–1 victory over Barnet.[6] Williams made 21 appearance and scored 1 goal against Barnet in a 2-1 win which turns out to be a winner.
[edit] Rochdale
On 31 January 2011 he joined Rochdale on a free transfer after impressive performance for Stockport. On 15 March 2011 he made his full debut for Rochdale against Notts County. [7] On 11 May 2011 he was released from Rochdale after the club chose not renew his contract. Williams made 9 appearance and scored none for Rochdale.
[edit] Plymouth Argyle
On 1 July 2011, it was confirmed that Robbie would join debt-ridden club Plymouth Argyle, after their financial difficulties were resolved. Williams made his debut against Shrewsbury Town in a 1-1 draw on August 7m 2011. [8] On 24 September 2011, Williams netted his first goal for the Pilgrims in a 2-0 home win over Macclesfield Town, the game was watched by fans from all over the country who came to support Plymouth because of their financial issues. The event was called Fans Reunited, and was organised by Plymouth and Brighton fans.
