First time in the history[4] of the United States that a hip-hop artist and Latino[5] with Mexican descent ran[6] for the office of the U.S. Vice President.[7] It was the second time in history that a person of Native American ancestry had vied for a Vice Presidential office.[8] He was the second after Herbert Hoover’s Vice President, Charles Curtis, to have a Native American ancestry.[9] Dr. Robert Ornelas[10] is the great-great-great-grandson of Chief Cristobal Osuna from a tribe in the San Diego Mountains circa the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo (1848).[11]
