Haley pitched for the Lake County Captains of the Class A Midwest League in 2009 and 2010, but struggled with his command, as he issued too many walks.[5]

In 2011, the Indians transitioned Haley from starting pitcher to relief pitcher. He played for Lake County and the Kinston Indians of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League, but was sidelined in June and July by a groin injury. In 2012, he pitched for the Carolina Mudcats of Carolina League and the Akron Aeros of the Class AA Eastern League, but missed time due to a groin injury and a sports hernia.[5] They added him to their 40-man roster after the 2012 season.[1] Haley pitched with Akron in 2013, and was designated for assignment by the Indians after the season to make room on the roster for John Axford.[6]
