Live in Hyde Park is the only live album—and first double album—released by the Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded over three record-breaking nights at Hyde Park, in London on June 19th, 20 and 25 2004. These three concerts became the highest grossing concerts at a single venue in history. The album went straight to #1 in the UK and stayed there for a total of two weeks, selling over 120,000 copies.[1]
Of the eight studio albums by the Chili Peppers that were released before Live in Hyde Park, only three are actually represented in this album's set list - Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Californication and By the Way (the single "Fortune Faded", however, was featured solely on the band's Greatest Hits compilation). "Under the Bridge" and "Give It Away" were the only songs from Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
It has been revealed that guitarist John Frusciante dislikes his guitarwork on Mother's Milk, which is why that album's songs are rarely played. The three albums before Mother's Milk also have their songs rarely played other than "Me and My Friends".
None of the tracks featured on the album One Hot Minute (except for Pea) have been played since Dave Navarro, the band's guitarist from 1994 to 1997, departed, with Kiedis, Flea and Smith claiming it does not suit John Frusciante's guitar playing style.
