Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bertoua

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bertoua is the Metropolitan See for the Ecclesiastical province of Bertoua in Cameroon. The current metropolitan archbishop of Bertoua is Archbishop Joseph Atanga, S.J., who was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday, December 3, 2009. He had previously been the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bafoussam, Cameroon. Archbishop Emeritus Pirenne's resignation was accepted the same day for reasons of age. The archbishop-elect was born in Akok-Bekoe, Cameroon in 1952, he was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1987, and ordained a bishop in 1999.
