Route 248 Route 254

Route 249 is a short, 4 lane freeway running from Interstate 44 in Joplin and ending at Business US 71 in Carterville.

The road has been built as a freeway and could be a future part of Interstate 49 which will run down the U.S. Route 71 corridor.[2]

[edit] Route of the highway

The highway begins at an interchange with Interstate 44 and US 71 on the east side of Joplin. The road runs north from there and has interchanges with Route 66/Business I-44, Newman Road, and Zora Road before ending at Business US 71/Route 171 near Carterville.

It is proposed that Route 249 is to be the first leg of a loop encircling the Joplin area.[3]

[edit] Note

Some Joplin businesses use "Interstate 249" in their directions, even though it is just a state highway(as of 8/27/2010).[4][5]
