Rooties Pump Room was a restaurant located just north of the University's North Campus in Buffalo, New York and was one of three restaurants that claimed to have invented the "Buffalo-Style Chicken Wing", also known as the "Buffalo Wing"[verification needed]. Before the Pump Room went out of business its management claimed to have introduced the recipe in the 1950s. Two rival restaurants dispute this: Duff's, on Sheridan Drive in nearby Amherst, and the Anchor Bar, whose claim dates back to 1964.
Rudy's Pump Room was primarily a sawdust-covered floor bar known for its old-fashioned hand pump beer draft system, which has come back into vogue as cask-conditioned beer has found a new market thanks to microbreweries.
