Ruptured Ambitions Records first began life as a 'do-it-yourself' promotional outfit for punk, and punk-related independent musical ensembles based in the Plymouth and West Devon areas of the UK.

This soon spread, encompassing musical groups, desktop publishing and other DIY, anarchistic and fund-raising bodies throughout the country and, latterly, many parts of the world. Ruptured Ambitions' projects have included distribution, recorded releases, film, publishing and event organisation. Since its formation in 1989, Ruptured Ambitions continues in various forms as of 2012.

You've Heard It All Before (the Crass cover versions album and the first of over 30 R.A. releases to date) is currently out-of-press on the original vinyl. 2,000 copies were sold in aid of Rape crisis centres in the UK. Plans are in progress for a CD reissue.

Bands and artistes who have contributed work on Ruptured Ambitions releases include Oi Polloi, Subhumans, Bus Station Loonies, Riot/Clone, Wat Tyler, English Dogs, The Varukers, Fleas and Lice, Sensa Yuma, Police Bastard, The Dangerfields, Eastfield, Cowboy Killers, Zygote, UK Subs, Terminus, Harum Scarum, Bad Influence, Nick Toczek, The Orphans, Conflict, Family Bastardo, The Chineapple Punx, Power of Idea, Pan's Grannies, Disorder, The Bloodclots and Naked Aggression.

The name Ruptured Ambitions derives from founder Chris Willsher’s experiences at an audition for the role of Hook in a Peter Pan musical in January 1989. On the day of the audition Willsher was suffering from a severe case of piles or haemorrhoids for which he required an urgent doctor’s appointment. The appointment overran, making Willsher late for his audition and, in his haste to get to the theatre, he agitated his haemorrhoids to such an extent that they burst or ruptured. In too much pain to actually attend his audition, Willsher’s ambition to play the part of Hook was ‘ruptured’ by the rupturing of his haemorrhoids. Later that year Willsher drew on his experiences when naming his new label and distro.[1]
