São Vicente is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It covers the whole island of São Vicente and the uninhabited island Santa Luzia. Its capital is the city Mindelo. The municipality consists of one freguesia (civil parish), Nossa Senhora da Luz, which also covers the whole island. The freguesia is subdivided into the following settlements:

History[edit]

In older times it belonged to the older Municipality of Santo Antão, but by the beginning of the 20th century it was already a separated municipality. Later, the island of Santa Luzia that belonged to the older Municipality of São Nicolau, was integrated in the Municipality of São Vicente.[citation needed]
