The Volkswagen Lavida is a compact car released by Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive (CSVW) for the Chinese market.
Debuted by CSVW at Auto China 2008 in Beijing, the Lavida acquired many body design themes from Volkswagen Neeza Concept Vehicle (大众-哪吒概念车), which was also realsed at Auto China one year before in Beijing. The Lavida is considered as the first mass produced Volkswagen compact car, which was mainly designed by its Chinese partner. It is based on Volkswagen Group PQ34 platform and competes other VW relatives, VW Jetta/Bora Mk4 produced by FAW-Volkswagen in China. The first generation equipped with two engine options either 1.6L or 2.0L.
CSVW introduced Lavida 1.4 TSI Sport at Auto Shanghai 2009, which shares engine with FAW-VW Sagitar TSI. It is reported that CSVW has showed a Bluemotion Concept Version of Lavida, but there is no plan to produce that car.
In 2010 CSVW unveils e-Lavida concept car at Auto China 2010, which is a part of VW's worldwide EV strategy.
2011 saw four new 1.4 TSI variations available in China. They are equipped with either 5-speed manual shift gearbox or 7-speed direct shift dual-clutch gearbox.
