SINKEX or Sink Exercise is a US military term for the test of a weapons system usually involving a torpedo or missile attack of an unmanned target ship.[citation needed]
The US Navy sometimes refers to this type of exercise as a HULKEX (Hulk + Exercise).[citation needed] Also, the US Navy uses SINKEX to train its sailors on the usage of modern-day weapons.[1]
This technique is used to dispose of decommissioned warships.[2] The US Navy performs SINKEXs north of Kauai, Hawaii, in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California, and near Puerto Rico.[2]
