SMC Networks is a hardware manufacturer of equipment such as network cards, switches, wireless routers, broadband routers, VDSL, network attached storage servers, and IP cameras.

SMC Networks is the retail arm of Taiwan based Accton Technology Corporation (TAIEX:2345). By 1991, Accton had established itself as a leading provider of OEM and ODM Ethernet technology to well known Ethernet companies around the world. Between 1991 and 1996 SMC Corporation of Hauppauge, New York became a large customer for Accton. During 1996, however, margins on Ethernet products began to fall dramatically from 30% to the low teens.[citation needed] This put SMC Corporation in difficult financial circumstances and unable to pay their mounting accounts receivable to Accton.[citation needed] In 1997 Accton converted the SMC bad debt on its books to an investment and acquired the SMC brand. The result was that two companies were established, SMC Networks (SMC) and Standard Microsystems Corporation SMSC.

In 2001 Sean Keohane was hired as CEO. Sean came to SMC from Allied Telesyn, now operating under the name Allied Telesis where he was VP of Sales and Marketing. Soon after Sean hired Barry M. George as VP/General Manager. Barry had previously led competitor D-Link Systems to an IPO. Together they reestablished SMC Networks in distribution, dmr, reseller and retail channels.

Today, SMC Networks produces market and services LAN and connectivity hardware for small and medium enterprises, home and office users. The company's headquarter is located in Irvine, California in the United States.

SMC maintains a global presence through regional offices located in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Japan and serves its target customers through an extensive network of VARs and Internet Service Providers.
